The recording of the album has begun!

On August 17th we packed our car with gear and drove to the studio to record the drums for our upcoming debut-album. We spent that friday pretty much in the car and setting up the sessions. The drums in the studio got new batterheads and the drums got tuned. After setting up the drum-kit we started miking the thing. We used some standard mics and then some pretty exotic ones as well. Here's a picture of what it looked like after setting up:

On Saturday we got to tracking. The start was a bit slow, but after Patrik got his groove on, things started rolling in a ridiculous pace. Sunday was efficient - 7 songs! After lots of sweat, 10 broken drumsticks and 3,5 days of recording we had the drums to 16 songs on the hard-drive. Here's a pic of a consentrated beater.

Some of the songs didn't change that much from the live-versions, but there are a couple cool new things that spices it all up. So once again we loaded the car and started the 3,5-hour drive back to Turku. The recording of the drums went apparently a bit too nicely, so about halfway through the drive our oh-so-reliable car decided to break down. After a couple of hours of starting to figure it out we decided to try again but that was a mistake! That resulted to us chilling on the side of the freeway and waiting for someone to pick us up.

Juuso's father was the knight in a shining Honda and came to the rescue the three stranded ones.
So now we're home, and we'll continue with the bass and guitars shortly. Stay tuned!

Working on...

...an album! We recently recorded demo-versions of 18 songs and we'd have to pick the songs to the album from there. We're all pretty excited about this finally happening!

This weekend we'll be rehearsing for our first semi-acoustic gig. You'll hear some pretty cool arrangements of our songs. We'll soon tell you where the gig is.

Last weekend was a busy one. We played in Turun Klubi on Friday and that was the last show before summer kicks off. And on Sunday we tracked down new riffs and ideas, giving a nice start for the pre-production of our debut-album.

Tomorrow our drummer Patrik will be heading to the UK. First there will be a couple of lectures in Southhampton and then there will be The Great Escape in Brighton, where Patrik is to meet a couple of people from the music-industry. Wish him luck!

What a weekend!

Two kick-ass shows, good company and lots and lots of beverages - that makes a wicked weekend!

On friday we gathered to our rehearsal-space and got to take our new PA for a test drive. After a 5 hour rehearsal we were ready for the mini-tour.

We had the honor of meeting a great Swedish band, Self Deception, on Saturday morning. We picked them up with a rental-van from the Turku-harbor and off we went to Virrat to play at the Wirtaus - festival. After the 300 km drive we relaxed for a while and then went to do the soundcheck. After a while we got to open the event, and we were quite suprised that there were people in the audience! Even in addition to security and staff. Nice!
After our gig we checked out the other bands and went to bed - after a trip to the local saloon.

Sunday started off at noon and the van took off for Helsinki. Bar Loose! We were joined by Afterword, they were good as always. Sunday turned out to be a good night as well, we rocked the sh*t out of the place! After having a couple of coffees and other drinks we had to part ways with the swedes. So bon voyage, friends! Hope to see you soon!

Now we're taking it easy for a week and then we'll play at Turun Klubi on May 4th.

What're we up to?!

Whoa! One doesn't even realize how fast time goes by!
It's certainly been a while since the last update, and Bad King wants to apologize... or wait, no it doesn't.

The band has been busy in other areas of life, but now it's getting activated again! We've got an intensive weekend of rehearsals coming up, and we suspect to get a couple of new songs coming again. We're in a good place right now; we have time to rehearse, ideas are constantly popping up and inspiration is in an all-time-high! If everything goes well we'll probably be in the studio during the next autumn and an album could maybe pop out during 2013. But let's see, we're not promising anything yet - let's just say that there is a good buzz going on.

Anyways, we're happy to announce that our music-video is finally done! Now there are a couple of papers to fill and then it'll be on the internet - we'll post it here soon!

We also have a couple of gigs coming up! We'll be playing two shows with Self Deception, a swedish modern-rock band, make sure to check them out on YouTube and/or Spotify. First we've got Virrat on the 21st and then we'll play in Helsinki on the 22nd! Feels got to get there again, it's been a while. :)
And on the 4th of May we'll play in Turku. And from there our drummer will take a flight to the UK to meet some people, we're eager to see the outcome of the trip.

The start of 2012

2011 was a good year for us. But lets make 2012 even better!
Bad King started the year with 2 gigs, one in Hämeenlinna and one in Turku.
We played sharp and the audience seemed to enjoy itself, and that's always the main goal. :)
We're currently booking gigs for the spring and summer, and we'll let you know as soon as we get
confirmed dates. April looks pretty nice, though.
And hey, we have two gigs in Turku coming up in February, check the dates in the right sidebar.

We also finally finished filming our upcoming music video! The video is now in editing, and we're looking forward to see the outcome. I'm not promising any dates, but you'll certainly know when it's done. Get prepared to share it! ;)
